Lauryn Hill Pleads Guilty

Hip-hop diva Lauryn Hill pleaded guilty to three tax evasion charges last Friday. She’s scheduled to be sentenced this November. The singer faces a maximum prison sentence of one year for each charge.

Ms. Hill said she had to “go underground” during the three years in question. This year she gave birth to her sixth child and looks none the worse for wear. We do hope this story has a happy ending. Source

Adele’s Got a Bun in the Oven

It’s no rumor. Soulful singer Adele wants the world to know that she and partner Simon Konecki are expecting their first child together. The happy news was posted to Adele’s website on Friday. The post generated so much traffic that the site crashed. Source

Katie Holmes Files for Divorce

Actress Katie Holmes stunned everyone on Friday when she announced through her lawyer that she’s divorcing actor Tom Cruise after five years of marriage. Holmes is requesting sole custody of their daughter Suri.

Tom Cruise was apparently blindsided by the news he received while working on a film set in Iceland. Divorce is never a happy thing, especially when there’s a child involved. We wish all the best for this family. Source

Dwayne Wade to Have Surgery

NBA Champ Dwayne Wade will miss next month’s London Olympics due to necessary knee surgery. The Miami Heat guard played through the entire postseason in pain.

The surgery hasn’t been scheduled but will happen soon. It’s basically a “cleanup” procedure. Wade should not be on crutches for more than one day. He hopes to begin training camp with his team this fall. Source

Erin Andrews Leaves ESPN

It’s official. Sports reporter Erin Andrews has separated from ESPN. The network wants to make it known that they did make an aggressive offer to keep her. Fox is reported to be in hot pursuit. Fox Network declined to comment. Source

Savannah Guthrie to Replace Ann Curry on Today

NBC News won the worst boss award last week for the way they handled Ann Curry’s termination as Matt Lauer’s Today co-host. Despite a week of media speculation Curry gamely showed up and faced the camera each day.

On Thursday Curry gave a tearful farewell to her viewers. On Friday Savannah Guthrie assumed the throne, although the new team won’t officially rollout until July 9. Guthrie began to co-host the third hour of Today last June. She’s also the show’s chief legal correspondent.

Ann Curry has accepted a multiyear deal as international correspondent and anchor-at-large for NBC News. We can expect to see her when she covers the Summer Olympics in London this month. Source

My Three Sons Actor Dies at 68

Actor Don Grady died of cancer in his California home last week at the age of 68. He played Robbie on My Three Sons throughout the life of the weekly show from 1960 until 1972.

Mr. Grady began his acting career as a Mouseketeer on The Mickey Mouse Club. The California native was also a successful musician. He composed music for TV, films and theater including Phil Donahue’s talk show theme song.

Writer Nora Ephron Dies at 71

Writer and director Nora Ephron died in Manhattan yesterday, ending a long battle with leukemia at the age of 71. She will be remembered for romantic comedies that include Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail.

For Ms. Ephron Heartburn was a catharsis for her failed marriage to Carl Bernstein of Watergate fame. The book is a witty comment on her life in Washington, DC, as well as a narrative of her husband’s infidelity. It was later made into a movie.

Nora Ephron is a native New Yorker. She is survived by two sons from Carl Bernstein and by her second husband Nicholas Pileggi, who she married in 1987. Pileggi is the author of Wiseguy which was adapted for the move Goodfellas. Check the source link for the NY Times obituary. Source
